Windows Phone 7 Ready – RTM

The Windows Phone team sent out a tweet last night indicating that Windows Phone 7 was RTM (Release to Manufacturing).

Windows Phone 7 RTM Tweet

And from the Windows Phone Blog: “Today’s milestone is exciting not just because of what we’ll deliver to customers later this year, but how it sets us up for success over the long term in the mobile space… we’re really just getting started.”

Almost sounds like Microsoft has a long term roadmap for Windows Phone and that unlike previous MS mobile operating systems the updates for Windows Phone might come more frequently than every 1 or 2 years. Also Microsoft has taken direct control of the updates, away from handset manufacturers and networks, a move which Apple did from the start giving them far more control and the ability to quickly respond to the market.
