Orange have announced their new Pocket Landline service, giving you a virtual geographic number (01xxx/02xx) which will be diverted to your mobile phone.
The service allows you to have up to 10 geographic numbers setup to forward to your Orange mobile phone, allowing callers to dial you and pay a local standard landline rates. There is a web based control panel for managing your numbers and you can even port an existing landline number over to the service.
Of course the catch is that this is a monthly paid for service, with plans starting at £15/month which when compared to the free offerings of Sipgate or Skype which offer their service for only €15/3months this starts to look like a fairly expensive way to have your virtual number. I’ve used Sipgate for a number of years now and have never had a problem with the service, but if you’re a die hard Orange customer and want to maintain a single service relationship it might be worth looking at.
