The saga of the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update for the HTC Desire continues ever onward, not one part of it making HTC look any better.
First HTC said there wouldn’t be a Gingerbread update for the original Desire, stating lack of available memory as the issue. Then they back-tracked and said there would be an update by removing some ‘key applications’ in order to make the necessary space. Possibly (probably) as a result of the negative user reaction and comments.
Today they have announced that they have completed the build and are now internally testing it prior to release – to the carriers who will most probably test it for another month before releasing it.
Comments now are generally positive, but HTC really need to kill this PR nightmare and move on quickly.
