The highly anticipated Galaxy S3 has been announced by Samsung. It is the successor to the original Galaxy S and the Galaxy S2 and the specs for the handset have been confirmed as a massive 4.8-inch 720p display, a powerful 1.4Ghz quad-core processor and its running Android 4 ICS.
Software wise Samsung are touting their Siri competitor S Voice which allows you to perfrom phone functions like answering and rejecting calls, setting alarms, and even taking pictures. It will be itneresting to see how this works, and if it requires a constant data connection like Siri does.
Social tag lets you link the faces in your photo album with their social media streams. Once it’s set, all you have to do is look at their pictures and you’ll see their current status appear. S Beam is integrated which lets you bond
instantly via NFC so you can transfer documents, contacts, pictures, music, videos easily to another S3.
Popup Play is an extremely interesting feature – taking advantage of the huge 4.8″ display you can choose to watch a HD video in another window while sending an email or text at the same time. Apparently you can resize the video, and drag it to where you want on the screen while you continue messaging. Is this the first side-by-side multi-tasking we’ve seen on a mobile device? Yes, and something people have been crying out for on the iPad for a long time now. You can almost guarantee iOS6 will have something like this in it now!
Last night Vodafone, Orange and Three all scrambled out releases stating they would be carrying the new Samsung Galaxy S3 (shock) and provided links to register for updates. Availability for the Galaxy S3 in the UK should be May 30th.
