WhatsApp Messenger is one of the most popular and usable cross-platform instant messaging services, and is seen as a serious threat to the traditional SMS. Its available across iOS, Android and Windows Phone and the developers recently confirmed they were handling over 1 Billion messages a day which is a staggering amount.

Normally £0.69 in the iTunes UK Store, the App is now available for free. No word on whether this is a permanent move or a trial period, but given the App is free on Android and Windows Phone hopefully this is a move that will stay around.
