Back in Early August Beta4 of iOS6 came out for developers, and we noticed that the pre-loaded YouTube App was gone. This on the back of Apple ditching Google Maps in favour of their own in-house mapping solution signified a separation between the two companies.

Apple’s entire statement on the issue, via The Verge, is below.

Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.

Google promised it would be releasing an independent YouTube App for iOS and today the official YouTube blog has confirmed this is now available and ready to download from the iTunes store for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The new app is built by YouTube engineers, to give our iPhone and iPod touch users the best mobile experience.

The new standalone App has much better social sharing integration. The current App allows for sharing via an email link to the video, or to Twitter, whereas the new App predictably has sharing across a much wider range of services including Google+, Facebook, Twitter and also sharing by email, message (SMS/iMessage) and even copying the video URL to the clipboard.

Searching now also includes predictive results to help you find videos faster. Google says they are ‘working’ on an optimised version of the App for the iPad which will be available in the ‘coming months’, so presumably iPad owners upgrading to iOS6 will have to use the mobile web version of the iPhone App until it becomes available.
