tekz24 iPhone SE2 rumoured update

We don’t often cover rumours on the site, but there has been a lot of talk recently about an update to the last small iPhone in Apples range – the iPhone SE 2

The iPhone SE was released as March 31, 2016 and although it had a minor spec update  there hasn’t been any significant change since then. Released as an option for people wanting a smaller iPhone, it had the same internals as the then iPhone 6S but in the smaller 4″ display of the iPhone 5 & 5S models. It also retained the same rectangular design as the 5 & 5S.

We’ve been waiting for an update, and two years on rumours have begun. In November 2017 there was a detailed report published on China’s Economic Daily about iPhone SE 2, and now tech blog Tekz24 has stated that it has received “a tip from a very reliable source that the iPhone SE 2 will have a glass back panel” just like the iPhone 8 series and iPhone X.

Previous rumours suggested the iPhone SE 2 was going to lose the home button, and adopt the edge-to-edge display and FaceID from the iPhone X, but that seems a less likely for Apple’s cheapest iPhone, and not mentioned by the ‘tipster’.

The wireless charging rumour was also backed by reliable leaker Benjamin Geskin in a Tweet on April 21st, quoting a codename of Jaguar and saying that the phone was already in mass production.

The iPhone SE 2 would have current specs and storage bumps also to bring it in line with the current range, and likely an improved camera. Some have also suggested it will lose the 3.5mm headphone jack to help with the phone depth. The addition of Wireless charging would mean all Apple’s ‘current’ phones (the iPhone 8 and iPhoneX both have it) would have Wireless Charging, plus it was included in the updated Air Pods charging case, a clear indication that Apple is fully on board with Qi Charging.

Expect to see the iPhone SE 2 announced in the next few weeks, with availability soon afterwards.
