The Airo Wristband Aims to Measure your Health along with your Food Intake

Wearable tech is slowly moving into our daily lives through smart watches, high-tech eye wear, and fitness bands. The Airo wristband falls into the latter category, and while it can’t magically make flab disappear, it does promise to help you monitor what you consume.

Fitness gadgets and apps are a dime a dozen. Most of them can tell you what you should do, and can track each and every calorie that you put into your body – nothing we haven’t seen before. The Airo Health company aims to change that with the Airo wristband as they have finally figured out a way to actually measure what goes into your body by using LEDs to detect metabolites in your blood.

The band will be able to track different things including your sleep patterns, workouts, stress, and food intake. Nothing life-altering, but the embedded spectrometer is what makes the Airo wristband stand apart from every other fitness band on the market. The spectrometer will measure users food consumption by measuring different wavelengths of light which will detect nutrients as they are released into your bloodstream. This should allow the company to monitor sugar, carbs, protein, and salt intake as your body breaks foods down, and the sensor detects the amount of light passing through your blood.airo band
Needless to say, the Airo wristband will collect a lot of data which is where the Airo app comes into play. The app wil take all that raw data and give you advice on how to handle your health by recommending things like more sleep or less candy. The latter is speculation, although everyone knows too much candy is a bad thing for your teeth and your health.

As cool as the Airo wristband is, they are still working on the tech so consumers won’t be able to pick one up until sometime in the fall of 2014 barring any setbacks. The Airo will come in three different sizes, and is available for pre-order right now if you’re interested. The first batch of Airo wristbands are going for $149/£92.00 + shipping which is $50 less than then the expected retail price.
