Apple has updated its affordable iPhone offering with the New iPhone SE. First launched on March 31, 2016 the iPhone SE (1st generation) was a budget priced iPhone, but with very respectable specs. With it’s 4inch display it was also aimed at consumers that were put off by the much larger screens of then then iPhone 6 and 6 Plus handsets.
The New iPhone SE has a similar aim. Great specs, and a modest 4.7inch display designed to appeal to those who treat a phone as a phone, not a media consumption mini-tablet. Those of you that loved that old 4inch form factor are sadly out of luck now. 4.7inch is the smallest you can get your hands on.
Display and Processor
The display is a widescreen LCD Multi-Touch display with IPS technology. It has a 1334×750-pixel resolution at 326 ppi with a 1400:1 contrast ratio (typical) and True Tone display.
These are by no means budget features. The A13 Bionic chip is currently top of the line and you could pay around £1149 for the iPhone Pro Max and get the same performance.
The camera is a 12MP Wide camera with a ƒ/1.8 aperture. Apple claims it “uses the image signal processor and Neural Engine of A13 Bionic to unlock even more benefits of computational photography”. What this software magic brings over the original iPhone8 we will have to see.
the best single-camera system ever in an iPhone
Despite rumours (and renders) the new iPhone SE has TouchID (not FaceID) leading a slightly larger chassis than would be needed, but machining and parts for the no longer available iPhone8 will doubtless have played a factor in this decision. It comes in three colours, black, white, and Product(Red).
Like the iPhone8, the New iPhone SE is wireless-charging capable with Qi-certified chargers and also supports fast-charging, giving customers up to 50 percent charge in just 30 minutes.
The starting storage is generous 64GB, and you can increase up to either 128GB or even 256GB if you choose – again putting it on a par with the current iPhone 11 storage options.
iPhone SE will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB models in black, white and (PRODUCT)RED starting at £419
This is a powerhouse iPhone at an affordable (for Apple handsets) price. I want to get the chance to review it first, but this is ideal for people who want a smaller framed phone, or for young adults begging their parents for an upgrade!
